RRW JOURNAL
Roy Roger's Workwear and Mother Tongue, two worlds coming together to express a shared vision, rooted in authenticity and designed to stand the test of time.
Workwear tells the story of what we experience, while music tells the story of what we feel. A pair of work trousers that fades and a much-loved record, marked by years of listening,
tell the same story: that of time leaving its traces, and wear transforming into beauty, memory and emotion. This exclusive collaboration takes shape in a capsule dedicated to those who
recognize the value of garments made with care and gestures that still carry meaning, such as placing a record on the turntable. Functional and essential pieces, inspired by the culture of making,
collecting and experiencing music.
Accompanying the capsule is a special release: the reissue of Notturno Italiano, the cult 1983 track by Mario Acquaviva, recorded with musicians close to Pino Daniele’s scene,
balancing Italian singer-songwriter tradition, jazz harmonies and boogie rhythms. Rediscovered over the years by DJs and collectors, Notturno Italiano is now considered a Mediterranean-flavoured jazz-funk classic.
Almost forty years later, Patrick Gibin, founder of Mother Tongue, wanted to bring the track back to life, involving Dan Maunick and Alex Malheiros of Azymuth, who reconstructed the original arrangement,
preserving its nocturnal atmosphere while allowing the music to breathe in a new form. In 2020, Mario Acquaviva returned to the studio in Milan to re-record parts of the track, keeping its original spirit intact
while allowing four decades of life to resonate within it. Completing the circle is the remix by Ron Trent, a leading figure in Chicago house,
who takes the track into a new hypnotic dimension without betraying its soul.
The result is a special edition born from the collaboration between Mother Tongue and Roy Roger’s Workwear, celebrating Italian craftsmanship through a limited-edition vinyl release and a capsule in which research,
craftsmanship and sensibility come together. A record and a capsule that speak the same language: objects to be lived with, each telling in its own way the stories we carry with us and the traces we leave behind.
